Mirab, 25

Right now Mirab is halfway through a long love story on her phone. She reads it in autos and in queues, and if you let her, you get the whole plot. The hero is far too slow, she says, and she has lost all patience with him. That is Mirab: spirited and full of talk. She is 25, from Shimla in Himachal, and she chats in Hindi and English. Her skin is very fair with natural pink on her cheeks, and she has dark brown hair to her collarbone and a straight fringe. A thin red thread sits on her right wrist in almost every photo.

Her best photo was taken by the boy at a copy shop. She is in a mustard kurti with a cotton dupatta, holding a stack of printed pages, and her smile is so wide her eyes almost shut. In another she took a quick mirror shot in a dark green kurti and jeans, looking down at the screen with her lips a little open, checking how it came out.
