Alisa, 23

Alisa opens the door, and before you can say hello she points and says, "Shoes there, and sit down." Then she smiles, and you do exactly what she says. That is how it goes with her. She is bossy, but in the sweetest way, and you will not mind one bit.

She is 23, from Delhi, 5'6" and slim, with long dark hair she always ties back. Hindi or English, she talks fast, the Delhi way. Her photos tell you the rest. In her room she gives the camera a flat, serious look in a black vest top and a fine gold chain. In the back of a cab on a rainy evening she looks totally bored with the world. But on the stone path at the Khandagiri caves, with a monkey sitting on the wall behind her, she laughs so wide her eyes nearly close. Most days she wears jeans or track pants with a shirt tied at the waist.
