Sara, 24

Sara starts in English. Polite, careful, a little slow. Give her two minutes and something makes her laugh, and then it is all Hindi, fast, with her hands moving. When she wants to tease you, she switches back to English and says it very slowly, so you do not miss a word. She says a Haridwar girl can do both at once.

She is 24 and small at 4'9", with a soft round face that goes pink when it is hot. Her cheeks push her eyes nearly shut when she smiles, like in her photo at the sugarcane juice cart outside the OUAT gate on Ekamra Marg: blue kurti, cloth bag, a glass of juice on the rail. She is bubbly and a bit of a home bird too. A friend once caught her sitting on her room floor, eating from a steel tiffin with her fingers, not caring at all about the camera.
