Pooja, 24

Look at Pooja and you notice the gold first. A small stud in her left nostril. Thin gold bangles at the left wrist, clicking as her hand moves. A fine gold chain that sits on a plain white t-shirt. None of it is loud. That is her way.

She is 24, a Visakhapatnam girl. She grew up by the sea, and now she lives in Bhubaneswar and walks everywhere with a folder or a bag on her shoulder. At the stationery shop counter she stares into the lens without a hint of a smile, very serious. On her terrace at dusk it is a different girl. Her plait hangs over one shoulder, washing drying on a rope behind her, and she gives a small, soft smile.

Pooja is slim and 5'4", with hair so long it goes past her waist. She will chat in Telugu, Hindi or English. She is simple to be with. She does not need a big plan, just good talk and some chai.
