Farha, 23

Farha has a habit of pushing her fringe to one side while she talks. It falls back. She pushes it again. Her thin glass bangles click every time, four on each wrist, so you hear her coming before you see her.

She is 23, a Gujarati girl from Rajkot who now lives in Bhubaneswar, and she talks fast in Hindi and English. There is fire in her. Keep her waiting at a lift and you will see it in her pressed lips. Sit her on a slow bus to Cuttack and she shoots the phone a look that says "really?" But when she is happy, her smile takes over her whole face and her small eyes almost close.
